Tour overview
Understand the pace, service and fit before diving into the itinerary.
A 100% pure-travel Gannan secret loop: direct flights to Langzhong, 2+1 first-class coach, and one sweep of Guane Valley, Zhagana, the Luock Road, Langmusi, Huahu Lake, the Zoige Prairie, the First Bend of the Yellow River, Lianbao Yeze, the Milarepa Pavilion and the Maijishan Grottoes. The route links grotto culture, Chinese civilisation, Tibetan culture and revolutionary heritage, with optional Tibetan-costume photo shoots and intangible-heritage Baoning vinegar foot soaks, plus speciality meals such as Tianshui malatang, Dangchang barrel fish and Tibetan clay hotpot. Five curated 4-star nights plus one 5-star night, with a portable oxygen canister gifted to each guest. Pure travel with zero shopping and zero gimmicks — early booking is needed in peak season. Sightseeing-focused with moderate drives, it suits first-time Gannan explorers who want snow peaks, lakes and Tibetan culture, and photography lovers.
The advertising line of Gannan reads: "I can't leave the sacred mountains, so take a branch of galsang flowers with you." It feels romantic at first read; only after travelling it do you understand its sincerity — the beauty of Gannan can't be kept or taken away; you can only go yourself and let it take root in memory. This land spread with broad strokes of blue and green is a secret realm where the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau transitions to the Loess Plateau: five-colour prayer flags flutter in the wind, prayer wheels have turned in Langmusi for a century without stopping; Zhagana's stone town is half hidden by cloud and mist; Lianbao Yeze's strange peaks rise like sets from a fantasy film — and when you stand on the viewing platform of the First Bend of the Yellow River and watch the water trace silken curves across the grassland, you truly understand what "heaven and earth hold great beauty without speaking" means.
This eight-day route sweeps in Gannan's classics: go deep into Tibetan monasteries for the chanting, run across Huahu Lake and the Ruoergai grassland, wake in the morning mist of Zhagana and marvel before the grottoes of Maijishan. Flying direct from Guangzhou in and out of Langzhong, with upgraded 2+1 land first-class seats throughout, five nights in selected four-diamond hotels plus one night in a five-diamond hotel, the trip covers Guane Valley, Zhagana, the Lock Road (Luoke Zhilu), Langmusi, Huahu Lake, the Ruoergai grassland, the First Bend of the Yellow River, Lianbao Yeze, the Milarepa Buddha Tower and the Maijishan Grottoes, plus on-the-ground experiences such as Tibetan-costume photography and a foot soak in the intangible-heritage Baoning vinegar — 100% pure touring, zero shopping and zero tricks. Gannan's secret can only be answered by those who walk into it.
Who is this route for?
It suits travellers going deep into Gannan for the first time to see snow mountains, lakes and Tibetan culture, as well as families who love pure touring and hate shopping, and photography lovers. The itinerary is sightseeing-led with moderate driving, and Tibetan-costume shoots, monasteries, grassland and grottoes alternate to satisfy both nature and culture preferences. A reminder: parts of the route sit at 3,000–3,500 metres; travellers with heart, lung, brain or blood disorders, those recently recovering from major surgery and people over 75 should not join. Travellers 65 and older must sign a liability waiver, and you should state your health honestly at registration.
What should you note before departure?
Highland mornings and evenings are cold — bring a thick jacket, windproof layer, sunscreen, sunglasses and rain gear.
Each person receives a complimentary portable oxygen canister; you can also bring Rhodiola and other altitude-sickness remedies and common medicines. Protect your sleep and avoid catching a cold in the days before arrival.
Zhagana and Guane Valley include hiking stretches — wear comfortable trainers and go at your own pace; the Lock Road is easily affected by weather and road conditions, and reasonable adjustments will be made in case of force majeure.
Stay quiet in the monasteries, respect Tibetan religious customs, turn prayer wheels clockwise, and don't photograph Buddha statues or monks casually.
Highland food differs from the coast — you may bring instant noodles, pickles or other snacks.
The scenic-area internal transport of about 185 yuan/person is voluntary; the single-room supplement and personal spending are extra — ask the advisor for a breakdown at booking.
How the eight days unfold: from Guane Valley to Maijishan

Day 3 — Zhagana and the Lock Road: Pass the Lazikou Monument and go deep into the stone town of Zhagana ringed by cliffs; switch to small vehicles for the essential stretch of the Lock Road to look down on the village in the clouds and mist.
Day 4 — Langmusi and the First Bend of the Yellow River: Turn prayer wheels at Langmusi in the morning, cross the Ruoergai grassland and Huahu Lake wetlands in the afternoon, and wait for the grassland sunset at the First Bend of the Yellow River in the evening.
Day 5 — Lianbao Yeze: Hike and view the lakes among the fantastical mountains and waters where Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai meet, view the world's largest prayer wheel at Nyima Monastery from outside, and pass the Guomang Wetland to Luqu.

Not included: construction and fuel surcharges, travel accident insurance, scenic-area internal transport (about 185 yuan/person, voluntary) and personal spending, with the single-room supplement separate — budget about 600–1,000 yuan for incidentals. Closing words: Gannan's blue and green stay in your heart a long time
When the trip ends by the Jialing River in Langzhong Ancient Town, look back over these eight days: the waterfalls of Guane Valley, the stone town of Zhagana, the chanting of Langmusi, the reflections of Huahu Lake, the sunset at the First Bend of the Yellow River, the lonely peaks of Lianbao Yeze… every frame is like a prayer flag lifted by the highland wind, carrying the warmth of faith. Gannan has no sights for you to "check in" — only places for you to "stay". It is vast, quiet and full of colour, like a pure land shielded by sacred mountains.
Years after the trip, you may forget the road names and the meals, but you'll surely remember that wind through the prayer-flag tunnel and the words you never said — next time, bring another branch of galsang flowers back. For first-time highlanders, Gannan is a gentler starting point than Tibet: the altitude mostly runs 3,000–3,500 metres and most people adapt in a day or two, and with a gradually deepening itinerary and complimentary portable oxygen, there's no need to imagine it as too hard. If you're planning to fit Gannan into an eight-day holiday but worry about altitude sickness, road conditions and which season to pick, tell a 0765trip travel advisor your departure time, group size and travel preferences, and we'll give you a confirmed itinerary based on that season's roads and room availability. Before you leave, also recheck your flights, monastery opening hours and highland weather — everything should be subject to the latest official announcements.
