Tour overview
Understand the pace, service and fit before diving into the itinerary.
A flagship route covering Yunnan's classics in one sweep: return flights plus three rail legs, all-in 4-star hotels with a 5-star upgrade on the final Kunming night. From the Stone Forest karst wonders to Dali's Shuanglang, the Ideal State photo spot, a grand Erhai cruise with 360° sea-view afternoon tea and blues concert; ride the Jade Dragon cable car to the glacier, stroll Shuhe and Lijiang old town, and watch both the Lijiang Eternal Love and Lishui Jinsha shows; then take the train south to Xishuangbanna for elephants at Wild Elephant Valley, rainforest and Dai villages, and peacock release. The Kunming–Dali–Lijiang section is all-inclusive with zero forced extras, gifting the "snow mountain trio" (water, small oxygen canister, cold-weather jacket), fresh-flower bed dressing for newlyweds and a birthday cake, plus specialities such as Yiliang roast duck, long-table banquet and Bai cuisine. Perfect for first-time Yunnan families and young travellers.
Yunnan is a name that keeps recurring on people's travel lists: the spring of Kunming, the wind, flowers, snow and moon of Dali, the lazy afternoons of Lijiang, the tropical rainforest of Xishuangbanna — four completely different kinds of scenery, and eight days is exactly enough to string them into one perfect arc. This route begins at the Stone Forest: an undersea world from 270 million years ago, lifted into a forest of peaks by crustal movement, where sword-, tower- and mushroom-shaped rocks cast strange shadows in the sun; then it runs west, where Erhai Lake holds the Cangshan Mountains in its embrace, Shuanglang's wet bluestone lanes lead off into the distance, and the white buildings of Ideal State climb the hillside — for a moment you could swear you're in the Aegean. Step aboard the Erhai cruise boat, and sea breeze, afternoon tea and blues music arrive at once — that's the right way to open Dali.
Lijiang is another layer of dream: the running water of Shuhe, the glaciers of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the Sifang Street of the old town and Naxi ancient music. Then three bullet-train legs carry you south to Xishuangbanna, where elephants roam the rainforest of Wild Elephant Valley, peacocks fly over the primeval forest, and the bamboo houses of Dai villages and the dawn mist over the Lancang River compose the last romance of the south. The whole trip runs on two flights and three train legs, with four-diamond-and-above hotels and a final night upgraded to five-diamond in Kunming; the Kunming–Dali–Lijiang section is all-inclusive with zero self-paid extras and comes with the "Snow Mountain Three Treasures" (water, a small oxygen canister and a cold-weather coat); newlyweds get flower-decorated beds and birthdays get a cake — first-timers to Yunnan are looked after to the fullest.
Who is this route for?
It suits first-time visitors to Yunnan who want snow mountains, old towns, lakes and rainforest in one trip, families with children (elephants and peacocks are kids' favourites) and travellers who value accommodation quality. Four-diamond hotels throughout, with a five-diamond upgrade for the last night in Kunming, and the Kunming–Dali–Lijiang leg is all-inclusive with no self-paid items. A reminder: the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain cable car tops out at 4,506 metres and some stretches involve long drives — travellers with serious altitude-related conditions are not recommended to join. In winter, plan to be in Kunming between November and March to see the black-headed gulls, and you can join the complimentary "dance with the gulls" photo session.
What should you note before departure?
Yunnan has large day-night swings and strong sunshine — bring sunscreen, a sun hat, sunglasses and a warm jacket; a sweater is recommended for Lijiang.
The Jade Dragon section reaches 4,506 m — a small oxygen canister and cold-weather jacket are provided; avoid strenuous exercise.
Rail schedules vary with holidays and timetables; in force majeure cases, coaches substitute with fares offset against the rail tickets.
Yunnan's mountains are steep with strict speed limits, making some drives slow — bring snacks and motion-sickness tablets.
Respect every ethnic group's customs; compare prices at scenic-area shops and request receipts.
For children over 1.4 m, pay the snow mountain-related fees at booking to avoid missing tickets in peak season.
How the eight days unfold: from the Stone Forest to the rainforest
Day 1 — Guangzhou–Kunming: Driver airport pickup and check-in; in the evening you can wander Kunming's old street and the Nanping Street night market.
Day 2 — The Stone Forest and the long-table banquet: Tour the Stone Forest scenic area (buggy included); in the afternoon view the highland lake scenery at Fubao Peninsula on Dianchi Lake, and in the evening join the Yi long-table banquet and the fire-worship bonfire ceremony.
Day 3 — Dali and Erhai Lake: Walk Shuanglang Ancient Town and the Ideal State photo spot, enjoy a 360° sea-view afternoon tea with a blues concert, then board the Erhai cruise boat.
Day 4 — Dali Ancient Town and Lijiang shows: Wander Dali Ancient Town in the morning; head to Lijiang in the afternoon to watch Eternal Love of Lijiang and Lishui Jinsha, and freely explore Lijiang Ancient Town in the evening.
Day 5 — Jade Dragon Snow Mountain: Start in Shuhe Ancient Town, then take the big cable car up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and see Blue Moon Valley; return to Kunming by bullet train in the evening.

Day 7 — Dai villages and the primeval forest: Experience Dai village folk life, watch the peacock release at the Primeval Forest Park, and return to Kunming by evening train.
Day 8 — Return: Depending on flight time, be transferred to the assembly centre and then the airport for the return to Guangzhou.
What's included in the cost, and what's extra?
Included: return economy flights between Guangzhou and Kunming, three second-class bullet-train legs (Lijiang–Kunming, Kunming–Xishuangbanna return), seven nights in four/five-diamond hotels, 7 breakfasts and 9 main meals (including Yiliang roast duck, the long-table banquet and Bai-style meals), first-entry tickets to the listed scenic areas and premium guide service. Not included: construction and fuel fees, travel accident insurance, self-paid items such as the Wild Elephant Valley cable car and the forest-park buggy, single-room supplement and personal spending. The Jade Dragon cable car may be unavailable in windy seasons, maintenance or capacity limits — in that case refunds follow the cable company's terms with alternative sights arranged; show schedules and train times follow confirmation at the time of travel.
Closing words: between wind, flowers, snow and moon, and the rainforest — three train legs apart
Eight days, four cities, three kinds of weather. You set out from spring-like Kunming in a light jacket and arrive in Xishuangbanna in short sleeves; yesterday your breath frosted on the snow mountain, today you watch boatmen pole their craft along the Lancang River. Yunnan's richness lies in this abundance of "crossing four seasons in a day", and in the dizzying relay of old towns, snow mountains, lakes and rainforest. On the last night of the trip you'll probably be sorting photos in your hotel: the strange rocks of the Stone Forest, the reflections on Erhai, the glacier of the snow mountain, the elephant's trunk, the peacock's tail… a nine-grid post won't be nearly enough.
For first-timers to Yunnan, the greatest value of this route is "solving distance with transport": three train legs compress the thousand-kilometre gap between northwest Yunnan and Xishuangbanna into a few hours, saving you the trouble of arranging tickets yourself. And the real Yunnan is vaster than any photograph — pack the poetry and the distance into your suitcase, and you'll want to come back next time. If you'd like to fit this classic two-flights-three-trains route into your holiday, or adjust the days and the season, tell a 0765trip travel advisor your departure time and travelling companions, and we'll confirm the latest flights, trains and snow-mountain cable car arrangements for you.

IS THIS TOUR FOR ME?
Is this tour right for me?
The Jade Dragon cable car depends on weather
The big cable car may be unavailable due to wind season, maintenance, capacity controls or force majeure — refunds will follow the operator's policy with replacement scenic areas negotiated. Children over 1.4 m should pay the ticket supplement at booking in peak season so passes can be prepared.
Yunnan is high-altitude terrain
Kunming sits at about 1,900 m and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain at 4,506 m — those with heart conditions, hypertension or other high-altitude contraindications should choose carefully. Tell your guide at once if you feel dizzy or short of breath.
The Dianchi Fubao Peninsula stop is a seasonal gift
The Dianchi Fubao Peninsula stop applies only to arrivals between Nov 1 and Mar 15 (winter black-headed gulls); outside this window it is skipped, and as a complimentary stop it cannot be refunded or exchanged.
Respect local customs in ethnic regions
Yunnan is home to many ethnic groups — respect local customs and religious beliefs. When shopping at scenic areas, avoid unbranded goods without proper documentation and keep receipts and certificates.
