Tour overview
Understand the pace, service and fit before diving into the itinerary.
A three-day pure-tourism bullet-train route built around the Beibu Gulf Sea-Opening Festival: take the train from Guangdong directly to Nanning, first going deep into the Shiwandashan mountains to the internet-famous terraced hot spring of Butou and the largest ecological ranch south of the Yangtze, Shipu Shanshui Muge, with close encounters with little dairy calves; on day two rush to Qisha Fishing Port in Fangchenggang for the annual sea-opening ceremony and eco-seafood carnival, watch a thousand sails race out and taste the first catch of the season, then check in at Longmen Bridge, the outlet of the world-famous Pinglu Canal, and visit Sanniang Bay, home of the Chinese white dolphin; on day three try a DIY session with Nixing pottery, one of China's four famous potteries, wander Qinzhou Old Street and Liu Yongfu's Former Residence, and finish with the 5A Emerald City of Qingxiu Mountain. Two nights of light-luxury hotels, Mei Ji prawn-and-crab seafood and lemon duck flavour banquet included, truly pure tourism with zero shopping and zero in-scenic-area stores — perfect for a weekend short trip and seafood lovers.
The Beibu Gulf's summer belongs to the sea — and to the fishermen. Every year when the fishing season opens, the boats of Qisha Fishing Harbour in Fangchenggang hoist full sails and head for the sea in unison to the drums and firecrackers of the sea-worship ceremony — an age-old ritual of fishing and farming on the water, and an annual carnival for seafood lovers. This three-day route was born for that feast: from Guangzhou you board the bullet train and reach Guangxi in just over three hours, on the first night slipping into the Shiwanda Mountains for a soak in "Pamukkale"-style hot springs; on the second day you head to the Sea-Opening Festival itself — Danjia culture, a seafood carnival and the first catch of the season, then on to Sanniang Bay, where you might even meet a pink Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin face to face; the last day takes you into the old lanes of Qinzhou, where Nixing pottery clay lets you touch the warmth of intangible heritage, then into the misty fairyland of Qingxiu Mountain to close the trip in green.
Three days isn't long, yet the Beibu Gulf has packed the openness of the sea, the gentleness of the mountains and the bustle of an old town into this bullet-train radius. Direct high-speed rail from Guangdong and back, two nights in light-luxury hotels, and a sightseeing-led itinerary — genuinely pure touring with zero shopping stops and no in-scenic-area shops, ideal for weekend escapees who don't have a long holiday but want a different seaside experience. To note up front: this product includes a mandatory local self-paid package (398 yuan/adult, paid to the guide on the spot); dolphin viewing and the hot springs are seasonal and weather-dependent, and the Sea-Opening Festival's exact dates follow the local official announcements.
Who is this route for?
It suits seafood lovers who want to tick off the Beibu Gulf Sea-Opening Festival with a weekend plus one day, and family trips — the petting ranch, Nixing pottery DIY and Qingxiu Mountain's dinosaur park all delight children. Physical demands are low, so seniors and kids can manage it. Sanniang Bay's pink Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins are protected wild animals, and whether you meet them depends on weather and sea conditions; the dolphin-seeking boat trip is a voluntary self-paid activity, so keep expectations easy. If the mandatory self-paid package bothers you, or you're not interested in one of "hot springs, dolphin watching, the Sea-Opening Festival", ask about the full cost structure before booking — safer that way.
What should you prepare before departure?
Bring your own slippers and towels for the hot spring; the pool water is around 42°C, so do not soak more than 20 minutes at a time.
The UV at the coast is strong; bring sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses, and always wear a life jacket on the dolphin-spotting cruise.
Train tickets are group plan tickets; within 2 days of issue they cannot be changed, endorsed or refunded, so please confirm your itinerary in advance.
Those allergic to seafood should inform the guide in advance and choose meals accordingly.
Pottery pieces take time to fire after the DIY session; the exact collection method follows the park's arrangements.
The final order of the itinerary follows the guide's arrangements, and the festival activity times follow local announcements.
What's the day-by-day plan for the three days?
Day 1 — Guangzhou–Nanning–Shangsi: A bullet train of about 3.5 hours to Nanning East, then first to Shibu Ecological Ranch — the largest ecological sightseeing ranch south of the Yangtze — to watch the dairy cows through panoramic viewing corridors and get close to the calves; in the evening head to Butou Hot Springs on the northern flank of the Shiwanda Mountains, where white travertine terraced pools stack layer on layer at around 42°C, with mountain views while you soak.
Day 2 — Fangchenggang–Qinzhou: In the morning join the sea-opening ceremony and seafood carnival of the Beibu Gulf Sea-Opening Festival — the sea-worship rite, a thousand sails leaving port and Danjia culture displays — with a Fangchenggang seafood feast for lunch; pass the famous Longmen Bridge at the mouth of the Pinglu Canal by coach, then in the afternoon reach Sanniang Bay, home of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, for blue sea, sandy beach, curious rocks and fishing villages, with an optional dolphin-seeking boat trip.
Day 3 — Qinzhou–Nanning–return: Try a Nixing pottery DIY session — one of China's four great ceramics (children's experience included) — wander Qinzhou Old Street, a national-level tourist leisure block, and Liu Yongfu's former residence, enjoy a lemon-duck feast, then in the afternoon visit the 5A Qingxiu Mountain shade-plant garden and Jurassic dinosaur park before the bullet train back to Guangdong.
The three days hinge on bullet trains plus tourist coaches: about 3.5 hours by train on day one, day two concentrated in Fangchenggang and Qinzhou, and day three heading back after Qingxiu Mountain in the afternoon — a rhythm with give and take rather than time wasted on constant transfers. Families with children can make the Nixing pottery DIY and the petting ranch the focus, while photo lovers should save time for the misty light of Butou Hot Springs and Qingxiu Mountain.
What's included in the cost, and what's extra?
Included: Guangdong–Nanning return second-class high-speed rail, two nights in light-luxury hotels, first-entry tickets to package sights such as the Sea-Opening Festival activities and Sanniang Bay, 2 breakfasts and 2 main meals (including the Fangchenggang seafood feast), and Mandarin-speaking guide service. The mandatory local self-paid package of 398 yuan/person is paid to the guide on site; personal travel insurance and personal spending are not included. The listed experiences adjust with season and official announcements — confirm the latest cost structure and package details with your advisor before you go.
Closing words: hearing the voice of the sea in the Beibu Gulf
On the return train, sugarcane fields and karst peaks stream past the window while your phone fills with moments of white hot springs, a thousand sails leaving port and pink dolphins. Three days in the Beibu Gulf is no whistle-stop tour — it packs the taste of the sea, the ritual of the fishermen and the craftsmanship of pottery into one short journey. The chant of the fishing festival still echoes in your ears as the waves of Sanniang Bay quietly slip away.
The seas of the north are vast, the seas of the south are gentle — and the sea of the Beibu Gulf sings. In the grandeur of a thousand sails, the agility of white dolphins and the mottled arcades of the old town, it tells everyone who comes: every hardship in life deserves to be healed by a ritual by the sea. What lingers most from the three days is often not any single sight, but that "just right" feeling of threading together the relaxation of the hot springs, the ceremony of the sea opening, the warmth of pottery clay and the mist of Qingxiu Mountain — unhurried, uncrowded, with food, fun and rest alike.
If you'd like to fit this "sea-opening feast" into your nearest weekend but aren't sure about the festival dates, train tickets or the self-paid package details, tell a 0765trip travel advisor your group size and dates — we'll check the season's announcements and give you a confirmed itinerary. Before you go, also reconfirm the train schedules, hot spring opening hours and the Sea-Opening Festival activities — everything should be subject to the latest official announcements.
